Rollerski / Ski Roues Skating, Lyon, Parc de la Tête d'Or, France

Lyon's Parc de la Tête d'Or is one of the largest urban parks in France and a favourite with runners. The circumference is over 4km and there are lots of tracks and roads within the park itself. First getting to the park, the best bet if you want to skate is to take the cycle paths that face the traffic as you can at least see danger approaching. Lyon's side roads are not that busy, certainly not early on a weekend morning. However the tarmac they use is very hard, maybe due to summer temperatures in the high 30s, so points have some trouble to bite.

The surface in the park is better, it is some sort of red tarmac with a rough surface. It is smooth enough to rollerski but provides enough grip for pole points too. At 8am there are a lot of runners, all going anti-clockwise but they don't stick to the main road but take side trails where possible so it is not too busy .

The morning was cold, the start of autumn with a wind from the north. Snow on the mountains above 1800 meters apparently. Bit of a shock after the heat of the last days.
